GFC Remembers Ed Greene

The Union for Reform Judaism and URJ Greene Family Camp are mourning the loss of one of the heroes of Reform Jewish Camping. Our friend, leader and mentor Edward C. Greene passed away on Tuesday, May 6, 2008. Ed was a remarkable man, and had a direct impact on the lives of thousands of people. He was a Mensch in every sense of the word, and a pillar of his community.

In the early 1970’s, Ed became a major force in the founding of the URJ Greene Family Camp, and was its founding Chairman. Over the 30 years of its existence, generations of Jewish adults and children have had their lives changes inside of its gates. Without Ed’s energy and generosity, none of this would have existed.

As a founding member and a president of Temple Shalom in Dallas, Ed was tremendously active in his congregation and community. He contributed his time to numerous activities in his city as well as nationally and internationally. An incredibly active man, he loved to ski and was a high-time private pilot.

We join his wife, Ilene, and his children and grandchildren in mourning his passing. Messages of condolence can be sent to Ilene at her home, 12720 Sunlight Drive, Dallas, TX 75230.

To make a contribution in Ed's memory, please visit the donations page of our website. May Ed's memory be for a blessing.
